A tool brick building behind the Goulburn Post office, antennas can be seen on the roof that resemble those of cellular/moible networks.

Goulburn Telephone Exchange

Tucked away behind the main street in the main CBD a multi-story mystery to many, but to those with an interest in telecommunications, you’ll no doubt recognise this structure as a telephone exchange.

The antenna array at the top should no doubt hint to it’s purpose.

The Telephone exchange is located behind the heritage listed post office which was constructed between the years of 1880-1881.

The two buildings likely in close proximity as the post office was responsible for telecommunications in the late 1800s

The Goulburn telephone exchange opened in 1891, with 18 subscribers.
