Koorgang’s Islands wind turbine was installed in the mid-to-late 90s, it was a Vesta V44-600 KW, and was 73 metres tall.
It had the ability to generate enough electricity to provide power to over 150 homes.
In 2014, the turbine was dismantled into four pieces and shipped off to Tasmania, where it was given a new lease on life, on a poultry farm.
The structure featured a prominent ‘Energy Australia,’ logo on the generator housing.
The future of wind-power in Newcastle could come in the form of an off-shore wind-farm dubbed ‘NOW’ or Newcastle Off-shore Wind Power. A farm capable of generating ten-gigawatts is as of 2024 a real possibility for the Hunter.
