Newcastle Rocked by 5.6 Magnitude Earthquake on December 28, 1989.

Thursday 28th December 1989, Newcastle was rocked by a 5.6 magnitude earthquake, it caused 13 casualties and is one of Australia’s most serious natural disasters.

160 people were hospitalised, and 50,000 buildings were damaged as a result of the earthquake.

Newcastle Workers Club had nine casualties.

The epicenter of the earthquake was Boolaroo.
